From a hater’s point of view, 2004/05 was Freiburg’s most gratifying season: 18th place and bottom, only one such relegation as last-placed side in club history; just 18 points, a three-point-era low that still stood in December 2019; 75 goals conceded and the title of the league’s shooting gallery; a goal difference of minus 45; only three wins all season, and just one away, a 1–0 at Wolfsburg on matchday two; 22 defeats; only two home victories; and only six away points, the poorest away return in the club’s Bundesliga history.
